A team from GSGES (Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies) consisting of Dean Shigeo FUJII, Prof. Yoshizumi KAJII, Assoc. Prof. Kei MIZUNO, Asst.Prof. Kenichirou ONITSUKA, Ms. Yasuko HIROSE and Ms. Naoko TERUKAWA visited JSPS (Japan Society for The Promotion of Science) Bangkok Office in the morning on June 27th, 2014. Together with Mr. Kuniaki YAMASHITA (Director), Mr. Daisuke YAMADA (Deputy Director) and Mr. Go YAMAMOTO (Director of Thailand Office of JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization)), JSPS projects, acceptance of foreign students and other educational issues were actively discussed.
In the afternoon, the 8th Inter-university Workshop on Research and Educational Collaboration in Indochina Region was held at Grand Millennium Sukhumvit Bangkok as a part of the pre-symposium of Kyoto University ASEAN Center Opening Ceremony, organized by the JSPS Core-to-Core Program, “Formulation of the ASEAN center for Global Environmental Studies in Indochina region”. In addition to GSGES team and JSPS members, many important scholars including a president joined the workshop from Thailand (Mahidol University, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Thonburi, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Ladkrabang), Vietnam (Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hue University, Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry, Danang University, Danang University of Technology), Cambodia (Royal University of Agriculture), and Laos (Champasak University). After short self-introduction by each participant, Dean FUJII introduced international activities of GSGES, followed by presentations on activities for global environmental issues and international education collaboration in each ASEAN university. Active discussion in the workshop convinced practical and comprehensive education collaboration in near future of all the participants.
