On 10 March 2023, a field tour was conducted for about 30 officials from the Ministry of Agriculture in Mzimba District, Malawi, where we are implementing our project. During the tour, the participants visited three houses where the project had constructed ‘UDDT (Urine Diverting Dry Toilet)’ and were briefed by the farmers themselves about the toilets and the cultivation of crops using the urine and manure produced by the toilets.
The participants were surprised by the effect of the urine-based manure on their crops and impressed by the acceptance of the toilets by farmers who had never used this manure before. We intend to strengthen our relationship with the Ministry of Agriculture to disseminate this technology more widely.
The field trip was also covered by three local media and broadcast on television.
