The 9th Kyoto University – Mahidol University On-site Laboratory Workshop was held on Thursday, February 20 and Friday, February 21, 2026, in a hybrid format.

Kyoto University launched the On-site Laboratory initiative in September 2018 as a part of its strategy under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s Designated National University (DNU) program, and the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies (GSGES) of Kyoto University established the “Kyoto University On-Site Laboratory at Mahidol University for Educational and Research Collaboration in Environmental Studies” with the collaboration of the Faculty of Engineering of Mahidol University in 2018.

Hosted by Kyoto University’s GSGES, this workshop was held at Mahidol University’s Salaya, Kanchanaburi, and Phayathai Campuses and online. A total of 140 participants, including 69 on-site and 71 online, mainly from Kyoto University and Mahidol University, took part in the event.

Over the two-day period, the workshop was divided into four parallel sessions: (1) Environmental Engineering, (2) Agriculture & Ecosystems, (3) Public Health, and (4) Chemical Engineering. In these sessions, researchers from both universities exchanged information on recent research findings and the progress of educational and research activities.

On the second day, following remarks by Prof. Yasuyuki Kono, Vice President of Kyoto University, Prof. Izuru Saizen, Vice Dean of GSGES, and Asst. Prof. Pattaraporn Posoknistakul, Deputy Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, a group commemorative photo was taken.

During the Plenary Session, coordinators from each session reported on the contents of the respective parallel session, and information and opinions were shared and exchanged beyond the boundaries of their fields. Active discussions were also held regarding new collaborations in education and research, including the expansion of the Double Degree Program.

Finally, the workshop concluded with closing remarks by Asst. Prof. Pattaraporn Posoknistakul, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, and Prof. Chihiro Tanaka, Dean of GSGES, Kyoto University.

Continuing from last year, this workshop served as a valuable opportunity for active exchanges on joint research and educational activities between Kyoto University and Mahidol University. Discussions on potential future collaborations in research and education made the event highly fruitful.
